  • Can’t I do a lot of what TribeFrame does with Facebook™?
Social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace™ do allow users to upload and share photos and videos via their web-based applications and these are very popular features. However, many users ( the inventors of TribeFrame among them) believe that most social networks are a little TOO public and a little TOO social. Basically, the terms of use for those sites dictate that you lose certain levels of control once you upload and post photos. Commonly, other users can link to those photos, comment on them and even “tag” them with names. Being a “social” network, these websites are tilted very much toward creating linkages among their users. Even if your privacy settings are set to “Shares only with friends”—often it’s possible for others to link, share, annotate and tag your photos and videos. We think that only YOU should decide who gets to see your photos, so in that sense TribeFrame is the opposite of a social network. Back to Top
  • How much is the monthly subscription fee?
Unlike a lot of other photo sharing sites and connected photo frames, we don’t charge a monthly or annual fee. We also aren’t in the business of selling you photo reprints or other products and services. We just want to sell what we think is the best, easiest-to-use photoframe in the market. Back to Top
  • What other system requirements are there, besides the need for Windows?
TribeFrame connects to the network (and to the internet) over WiFi wireless networking. So, to use TribeFrame you’ll need to have a wireless network installed or have access to a wireless router. That’s basically it, though. TribeFrame works with all the standard security schemes, so as long as you know the network name (the techies call this the “SSID”) and the password (sometimes called a “passphrase”). Enter that once at install time Back to Top
  • How do I reset my password? Or, what if I forget my username?
Because TribeFrame isn’t web-based, there are no traditional username and login passwords to remember.

All security for the frame is based on a simple “Frame Number” unique identifier and a “PIN” code, much like your ATM card PIN. During the set-up process on the frame you set a PIN (It’s best NOT to use a PIN code that you’ve already used for an ATM or bankcard, by the way.) code that is required once at the time you set-up your software. The Frame Number is printed on a label on the back of the frame and is also accessible in the on-screen menus of the frame.

As you go through the installation process for the software on your PC, you’ll be prompted for the “Frame Number” and “PIN” for that frame. (If your frame is located on your own home network, the software automatically locates the frame for you via wireless.). Enter those once and you’re done. You can even assign an easy-to-remember name for the frame to make it easy to identify from the software. After that, just drag-and-drop photos to the icon for that frame and click on “SEND”. TribeFrame takes care of the rest. Back to Top
  • I saw a photo frame the other day that uses Flickr® to share photos. Do I need to have an online photo account to use TribeFrame.
No. There is no requirement that you have any online accounts or use any photo-sharing website to use TribeFrame. There are no logins to remember or usernames to access. TribeFrame is based on something called “peer-to-peer networking”. What this means in English is that TribeFrame receives its photos and videos directly from the PC sending them. It’s more like e-mail than anything else-- you build an “album” of photographs and videos on your PC and “SEND” them much like you send an e-mail. The pictures and movies travel directly to the frame via the internet-- no websites needed and no browsers required. Once you use the TribeFrame software it is obvious how intuitive the process is—just drag-and-drop photos into an Album and click “SEND”. The photos whoosh off to the frame. Best of all, it doesn’t matter whether the frame is across the room or across the country.

As a complement to the secure-sharing capability of TribeFrame, we do support several common photo-sharing sites, as well. Sites like Flickr®, SmugMug® and Picasa® are supported. Select them during the installation process and you can easily update photos on the frame from web-based photo sources. Back to Top
  • How much does it cost?
  • Can others log into TribeFrame and see my photos?
No. One of the cool things about TribeFrame is that it is inherently private. We don’t host your photos, those images don’t ‘live in the internet cloud’ and you only share with those that YOU select to share them with. Even if you send your photos to a friend’s TribeFrame, that friend cannot forward them on to share with anyone else. Back to Top
